Pedraneira is a white wine made by Eulogio Pomares with the Albariño variety in the Castrelo parish, within the Cambados municipal area. It belongs to the DO Rias Baixas, in Galicia, Spain. It takes the name of a small islet that is in the estuary in front of the vineyard called Francón, a vineyard that is therefore bordering the sea.
This proximity to the sea, the sheet of water, gives the farm a thermal stability preventing variations, which means that almost every year there is a good harvest.
The vineyard belongs to a cousin of Eulogio Pomares Sr, and has been rented by Eulogio and Rebeca to make this Pedraneira.
It was planted more than 40 years ago following the typical trend of the area, in a trellis with 1500 vines per hectare. The granite soil typical of Salnés here gives rise to wines that may have less soil but instead offer a very fresh and balsamic profile, with aromatic herbs and fennel.
The harvest is manual and a grape selection is made on the plot. The grapes are destemmed and subjected to a long and smooth pressing obtaining a low must yield, after a slight settling it spontaneously ferments in a 2,500-liter French oak fudre and the wine remains on its lees until spring without batonnage. The wine undergoes complete spontaneous malolactic fermentation. After discovery, Pedraneira remains in deposit for 3 months looking for a perfect integration.
