Ferraton Père & Fils

Ferraton St. Péray Le Mialan Blanco 2020

  • Vino Blanco
Monovarietal from Marsanne, we are pleasantly surprised by the scented, mineral and powerful nose. The drink is long despite the weight in the mouth. It has good persistence, fair acidity, measured. It comes from soils partly limestone, partly granite. Native yeasts are responsible for fermentation. 30% of the wine is fermented and aged in oak barrels (demi-muids), the rest remains in stainless steel vats. The two are blended before bottling, during the spring following harvest. A wine that is the maximum mineral expression of the Saint Péray terroir.

Michel Chapoutier describes himself as a "terroir hunter". He has terroirs and wineries spread across half of Europe, from the Rhone Valley, the place where he was born, to Roussillon, Australia, Portugal and Spain, in areas where no one would dare, he insists on getting as much juice as possible. And he gets it. Proof of this is that in 2017, he received in nine of his wines, the 100 Parker points. Bigger words, but that do not cloud his objectives. In fact, when asked if he has achieved everything in the world of wine, he answers a resounding no. He explains that everything changes, from the general taste of people through the climate, to the soil, in the immediate future, they will evolve. They are influential elements in wine, but changing, so he will continue working to achieve the best possible results by adapting to the present moment. One of those wineries that he recently acquired is Ferraton, north of the Rhone. In 2006 and after eight years as a director for Michel Ferraton, the son of Jean O¨ens, Chapoutier took over the reins of the winery.
