Produced from seven hectares of vineyards aged between 40 and 50 years, Joly's Clos de la Coulée de Serrant 2019 opens with a clear, bright but enormously dense and complex fan of crushed stones, herbs and fruit. thin but dense and multi-layered that needs air to open, but shows its class immediately. On the palate, this is a rich and intense salty Chenin, with body, firm and concentrated but elegant and stimulating, with firm tannins intertwined with a crystalline acidity that takes this highly complex icon wine to a long and compact but elegant finish. There is a remarkable purity, freshness and energy.
Virginie Joly insists that she taste the wine again on day three and day seven to detect all of her dimensions (she says this for all of her wines). However, even on day one, 2019 turns out to be one of the best vintages I have ever tasted of this familiar monopole, found on steep south-facing slopes in outcrops of shales (shale) interspersed with quartz. The finish is enormously dense, intense and structured and certainly very, very long.
The Clos de la Coulée de Serrant 2019 is undoubtedly one of the great wines of this planet and one of the stars together with 1989 and 1995. The 2019 comes with a 15% of alcohol well integrated and certainly natural. RP98
