- Albert Mann Wineck-Schlossberg Riesling Magnum 2019
For Albert Mann, the possibility of accessing this vineyard has been like a dream come true because it enthuses them to make a type of RIesling with more breadth and very different from the Schlossberg, which is a very pure wine. Wine is easy to understand; straight, dry, direct and with incredible freshness. It has a tangerine aroma but always delicate.
There are rare occasions when a Grand Cru vineyard is available in Alsace. Very rare. So when a plot in Wineck-Schlossberg became available in fermage, the Barthelmé did not hesitate and went for it. But let us go one step at a time. The first thing is that Wineck-Schlossberg is not a sub-parcel in the Grand Cru Schlossberg. It is in a different valley, between the villages of Wettolsheim and Kaysersberg. Like the Schlossberg that the winery counts among its heritage of vineyards owned, the soil is granitic, which is great for making a Haute-Couture Riesling like the one Domaine Albert Mann is used to bottling. The valley is sheltered from the wind and has little fame because there was no reputable winemaker on this site so far. . Up to now.
What is fermage? Well, a rental contract by which the tenant does not receive grapes or must, but cultivates the land as if it were his own. You can imagine that the five hectares that the Barthelmé have rented are already in biodynamic conversion.
And why in magnum? Well, why not? The winery thought it was nice that this first coming out was in style and nothing more stylish than wine in magnum.
