Una selección de Martin Kerpen de entre sus mejores Ausleses es una auténtica garantía. Dulce en sus primeros años, irá integrando el azúcar y ganando complejidad con los años. Weingut Kerpen no puede ser más Mosela. La casa familiar, en cuyos subterráneos y anexos se ubica la bodega, está en la orilla Norte del río Mosel a su paso por Wehlen. De hecho, apenas unos 100 metros al otro lado de este tranquilo río navegable, se encuentra uno de los más famosos pagos de Alemania, Wehlener Sonnenuhr (que, literalmente, significa “el reloj de sol de Wehlen”). Y esta curiosidad no es baladí, pues la historia de los Kerpen está indisolublemente unida a la de sus parcelas en este pago histórico, del que proceden sus mejores vinos. Como probablemente se imaginan, en Alemania los mejores viñedos del Mosela son aquellos con una orientación sur, que permiten la mejor insolación y, por tanto, que las uvas alcancen su madurez con regularidad. Por eso, en las mejores parcelas, las que tienen una orientación totalmente al sur, es habitual encontrar un reloj de sol que, como todo el mundo sabe, no es de demasiada utilidad si lo orientamos al norte.
