"Branco dos Villões is a white wine produced by Companhia dos Profetas e dos Villões from the Sercial and Folgasão grape varieties grown in its vineyards on the island of Madeira, in Portugal.Profetas e Villões is a project that brings together the wine identity of Madeira and Porto Santo, two neighbouring islands shaped by a long history of closeness and friendly rivalry. The name “Villões” comes from the nickname given by the inhabitants of Porto Santo to the people of Madeira, while the Madeirans, in return, called the people of Porto Santo “Profetas”. In this wine, that idea is expressed through an Atlantic white wine, born from acidic volcanic soils, with vineyards located in areas such as Seixal, Ponta do Pargo and São Vicente.The grapes are harvested by hand on Madeira and transported in 40 kg boxes to Porto Santo. After selection on a sorting table, the whole clusters are pressed directly and the must ferments spontaneously in horizontal stainless steel vats. No SO2 is added until the end of fermentation, allowing a slight pre-oxidation of the must. The wine then remains for 9 months on total lees in stainless steel.In the glass, it shows a pale yellow colour and a pure aromatic profile, with citrus notes and fresh fruit marked by bright acidity. On the palate, it is tense, vertical and very saline, with vibrant acidity, a clear mineral sensation and good persistence.A fresh, Atlantic and highly gastronomic white wine, especially well suited to seafood, oily fish, seafood rice dishes, quality preserves or dishes where the wine’s salinity and acidity can balance richness and enhance the flavour of the produce."
