Kalamity is a white wine produced by OXER Wines using 60% Viura, 10% Calagraño, and the remainder local grape varieties. These grapes are grown in very old vineyards in Rioja Alavesa (one dating back to 1920) at an altitude of 600 meters, on clay-limestone soils with yields around 3,000 kg per hectare. The wine is made using direct whole-cluster pressing, followed by alcoholic fermentation with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks, where hyperoxidation is achieved before pressing. The wine is then transferred to used 600L French oak barrels where fermentation, including malolactic fermentation, is completed, and where it remains for 10 months before bottling. The vineyards of La Rioja are almost all over a century old and are located in Elvillar, Leza, Navaridas, and Laguardia in Rioja Alavesa, and Cárdenas and San Vicente de la Sonsierra in Rioja Alta. They are cultivated organically using regenerative agriculture and with the utmost respect for the environment. In the winery, minimal intervention is used to allow the wines to fully express their terroir. The result is unique, incredible wines, highly acclaimed by critics and greatly respected by wine enthusiasts. The hallmark of these wines is their freshness and elegance. They are wines with minimal extraction and are vinified using French oak (always used), Austrian foudres, Padilla clay amphorae, and concrete eggs, resulting in fruity wines that are not overly oaked.
