Escolinas Blanco Castaño is a single-varietal Albarín Blanco, native to the Principality of Asturias. The must ferments and ages on its lees for six months in 500-liter Asturian chestnut barrels; equal parts are aged in 2023 and 2024 casks. It is malolactic fermentation. It is a unique wine that not only displays the aroma and varietal elegance of the Albarín Blanco, and the verticality and aging potential of the cool northern climates, but also the purity of the native chestnut trees that grace the verdant Asturian landscape. Escolinas is bottled in the terroir of Cangas del Narcea (Asturias, Spain) using the finest native grapes from the Escolinas micro-farms. It began its journey in 2012, thanks to the Monasterio de Corias. 30,000 bottles of the finest vintages of both single-varietal wines and the classic Cangas blend, which has been produced in the area for generations, are bottled. The site comprises a group of micro-farms of just 0.6 hectares in Cangas del Narcea and Ibias, Asturias, Spain. These small vineyards are not suitable for machining; they suffer from slopes of up to 30%, combined with an altitude of over 500 meters above sea level. They constitute one of the few mountain vineyards in Spain. On these steep slopes, the vines thrive on soils with a strong slate component, a characteristic of the terroir that helps regulate the plant's vigor and results in small productions that produce wines with a refined and elegant profile. Varieties such as Albarín Blanco y Negro, Verdejo Negro, and Carrasquín have adapted perfectly to Cangas' extreme climate and slate soils. Together with Mencía, they form a group of varieties that give the wines character and personality.
