Description
Escolinas Blanco Castaño is a single-varietal Albarín Blanco, native to the Principality of Asturias. The must ferments and ages with its lees, for 6 months, in 500-liter Asturian chestnut barrels; 1/3 in barrels from the year 2019, 1/3 in barrels from the year 2021 and 1/3 in new barrels from the year 2023. Malolactic free. It is a unique wine, it not only shows the perfume and varietal elegance of the white Albarín, and the verticality and aging potential of the cool climates of the north, but also the purity of the native chestnut tree that decorates the green Asturian landscape. Escolinas bottles the terroir of Cangas del Narcea (Asturias, Spain) from the best native grapes. The Escolinas area is made up of a group of microfarms of just 0.6 hectares in Cangas del Narcea and other towns in the region. These small vineyards are not mechanizable, they suffer slopes of up to 30% together with their altitude of more than 500 meters above sea level, they constitute one of the few mountain vineyards in Spain. On these steep slopes, the vines survive on soils with a strong slate component, a particularity of the terroir that serves to self-regulate the vigor of the plant and gives rise to small productions of wines with a fine and elegant profile. Varieties such as Albarín Blanco, Verdejo Negro, Albarín Negro and Carrasquín have adapted perfectly to the extreme climate of Cangas and its slate soils, forming a set of varieties that give the wines character and personality.
