One of our favorite Kabinett, by Selbach Oster, with notes of citrus and minerals, characteristic of the parcel. RP93
The origin of Selbach-Oster dates back to 1661 by the union of the two families that give the Weingut a name. The family has had interests in cooperage, viticulture and river transport, in what could be a perfect example of vertical integration in the German wine industry. Today they have 16 hectares of vineyards among which are some of the most prestigious vineyards of Zeltingen (Zeltingen Schlossberg, Zeltingen Sonnenuhr, Graacher Domprobst or Wehlener Sonnenuhr) that they elaborate following the precepts of the pradikatt (Kabinett, Spatlese, Auslese). Vineyards that are composed of blue slates of the Devonian period, with slopes between 30 and 60 percent inclination. Some of the best terroirs in the world. The tradition and solidity of the winery for more than three centuries have instilled in the Selbach a predilection for quality and hard work as a precedent for that quality. That hard work includes pruning in green in August, the usual manual harvest in the Moselle and winemaking in the traditional thousand liter fudres in the area. If we had to highlight something of Selbach-Oster's wines, it would surely be the cleaning and transmission of the terroir, that they are capable of performing. Not surprisingly, it is one of the largest Weingut in Germany.
