Montauto vermouth is obviously a vermouth made by Riccardo Lepri using Vermentino base wine grown at the Azienda Agricola Montauto, in the Tuscan Maremma.
Riccardo Lepri, owner and brainchild of Azienda Agricola Montauto, had the happy idea in 2020 to give a twist to his portfolio and, given the demand for a sweet wine, create a versatile vermouth that could serve as an aperitif, cocktail or digestive. All roads led - in his head - to a vermouth. But it had to be a vermouth that was not too sweet, but rather had to have an elegant bitterness that would give it versatility, refined, sensual, combining the elegant soul of the Tuscan Maremma with a slightly wilder side. To do this, he chose a Vermentino base wine that they bottle with considerable local success, because its iodized and mineral notes and a more neutral aromatic profile, match perfectly with the idea of vermouth, where botanicals such as wormwood, gentian, chamomile, cardamom, coriander and herbs such as mint, lemon balm and eucalyptus shine with their own light. The project is a work in progress, as Riccardo plans to use botanicals and herbs grown organically on the property.
In the glass we find an Italian-style vermouth, with its dose of bitter, complex, tasty and not at all saturating. We loved it and, that's why it is in our catalog. Try it.
