A Proibida em Rosé is a rosé wine produced by Azores Wine Company under the winemaking direction of António Maçanita and Joana Amaral Pinto, from old mixed vineyards of the Isabella grape grown on Pico Island, in the Azores archipelago, Portugal.Isabella, the forbidden grape, has safeguarded viticulture in the Azores since the 19th century, surviving phylloxera when other varieties were lost. This wine pays tribute to that legacy with a fresh, aromatic, and genuine expression. Grown on young volcanic soils and planted in cracks of coastal rock, the vines are protected from the Atlantic winds by traditional stone walls. Pale salmon in color, the wine shows crushed strawberry and cream notes on the nose. The palate is vibrant and textured, with striking salinity and a long, persistent finish. Made with minimal intervention and spontaneous fermentation, this seemingly simple rosé embodies two centuries of cultural and viticultural resilience. Ideal for fish, seafood, salads, white meats, and spicy cuisines such as Indian, Thai, or Japanese.
