La Calera del Escaramujo is a red wine made by Bodegas Cerrón with the Monastrell and Blanquilla varieties (5%) planted in their old Jumilla vineyards. La Calera is a unique pre-phylloxera vineyard located at 960 meters above sea level. This vineyard was abandoned for 20 years due to difficult access and the complicated work involved in its inclination (17%) towards the north face. In 2013 we began the recovery of this vineyard. Over the years Calera is showing its most qualitative profile, we still do not know its potential. With a total area of ??1.67 Ha and a highly changing geology due to various faults in the terrain, the grape represents a very complex soil that is expressed in the wine through finesse, elegance and austerity. The soil is worked without a tractor, with individual hoes and clearing by hand, to avoid compaction. At Bodegas Cerrón they know very well what they want and they work to achieve it. They belong to the DO Jumilla, and they search with great effort for old, pre-phylloxera vineyards, at altitude and fresh orientations, to produce wines, mainly of the Monastrell variety, with a Mediterranean character and complexity. Very interesting wines that will give surprises and good times.
