Coming from steep slopes in Assmannshausen, where the soils are essentially slate and quartzite and was planted with Spatburgunder over 80 years ago. This wine is named after the Cuvée Max in honor of the winemaker Max Himsted, a living legend of the August Kesseler winery. If there is a feature that makes us fall in love with this Cuvée Max, it is the creaminess and volume that reaches the mouth, where cherries and aromatic herbs give a sensual profile that forces us to continue drinking. August Kesseler took the reins of the family winery in 1977, when he was only 19 years old and in the Rheingau area they made essentially bulk. At that time, the winery had only two and a half hectares of the more than 22 that they have today. At present, they have a magnificent heritage of vineyards in the best areas of the Rheingau such as Assmannshäuser Höllenberg, Rüdesheimer Berg Schlossberg, Rüdesheimer Bischofsberg, Rüdesheimer Berg Roseneck or Lorcher Schlossberg. With a balanced production between Riesling and Spatburgunder (Pinot Noir), they are one of the best producers of the Rheingau and especially thanks to the quality of their reds. The technical team is made up of the winemaker Max Himstedt, a legend in the house, who has recently joined the young Simon Batarseh, to lead with August Kesseler the near future of this great house that surprises us every year.
