Proibido A Capela is made with grapes from a vineyard planted half a century ago in which 10% of white varieties coexist with 90% of red varieties. These are the poor schist soils from the Upper Douro, and the challenge - because Marcio is a man of challenges - is to make a wine without electricity, because not only is it grown and harvested by hand, but the destemming is also done by hand, bunch cluster, grain by grain. It is stepped on with the feet in a cement press and fermented for 20 days. It is transferred to barrels used for its refining, and not with a pump but with pitchers. A minimal amount of sulfur is added for bottling. We are before a cappella wine and without music, or at least without electric guitar, a fresh wine, with acidic red fruit and certainly disconcerting.
