- Pirata da Viúva Tutti Frutti 2016
Pirata is the fruit of these new paths, a blend of red and white grapes co-fermented together. The juice ferments spontaneously and is left to macerate in the skins for some time before being partially transferred to used barrels.
Adega Viúva Gomes was founded in 1808, in Almoçageme, Colares. The Colares wine region is delimited in 1908, an area on top of a cliff, bordered by the Atlantic Ocean, where the vines are planted directly on the sands of the beaches, which is why they did not suffer from the devastating Phylloxera de late nineteenth century.
Viúva Gomes is one of the last remaining classic producers in Colares, and can take pride in having well-preserved old wines from the 1931 vintage, which are a unique testament to the nobility of the wines produced in Chão de Arena with the indigenous Ramisco grapes (in reds) and Malvasía (in white).
Today, the 4th and 5th generations work together to keep the traditional wines of Colares alive. While respecting tradition, the father and son have also looked to the future, exploring new paths in winemaking.
