- August Kesseler Assmannshausen Höllenberg GG 2015
August Kesseler Assmannshausen Höllenberg Grosses Gewachs is a long name. How long are the 80 years that have elapsed since the Pinot Noir strains were planted in 1939, in the Höllenberg vineyard in Assmannshaus. They are soils of filitas and blackboards that give rise to one of the greatest red wines in the world.
August Kesseler took the reins of the family winery in 1977, when he was only 19 years old and in the Rheingau area they made essentially bulk. At that time, the winery had only two and a half hectares of the more than 22 that they have today. At present, they have a magnificent heritage of vineyards in the best areas of the Rheingau such as Assmannshäuser Höllenberg, Rüdesheimer Berg Schlossberg, Rüdesheimer Bischofsberg, Rüdesheimer Berg Roseneck or Lorcher Schlossberg. With a balanced production between Riesling and Spatburgunder (Pinot Noir), they are one of the best producers of the Rheingau and especially thanks to the quality of their reds. The technical team is made up of the winemaker Max Himstedt, a legend in the house, who has recently joined the young Simon Batarseh, to lead with August Kesseler the near future of this great house that surprises us every year.
