Curii Una noche y un día is a young, full-bodied red wine crafted on lees, made from the local variety giró (garnacha) in Alicante, Spain, by the family winery Curii Uvas y Vinos.Violeta Gutiérrez de la Vega, from Gutiérrez de la Vega wineries, and Alberto Redrado, sommelier at the restaurant l'Escaleta and awarded the National Gastronomy Prize for Best Sommelier in 2009, joined forces in 2010 to establish this project in Xaló, Alicante. In this region, once dominated by the moscatel business, the pair is reclaiming the lost viticultural identity by rescuing forgotten plots with native grape varieties. The project's philosophy revolves around minimal intervention in the winery to produce 100% Mediterranean, complex, and extraordinary wines.Curii Una noche y un día originates from vineyards aged between 15 and 60 years old, located 350 meters above sea level on calcareous soils and under a Mediterranean climate. The variety used is giró, a local clone of garnacha, cultivated traditionally with a respectful agricultural approach and meticulous vineyard management throughout the growing cycle. Grapes are harvested by hand at their optimal ripeness. In the winery, the grapes are partially destemmed and foot-trodden in open vats following traditional methods. The resulting must undergoes spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts and remains in contact with the skins throughout. Once turned into wine, it's gently racked into stainless steel tanks and aged for 6 months on fine lees. The outcome is Curii Una noche y un día, a wine whose name reflects the duration of skin maceration with the must. It's a young, fresh, vibrant red wine with a strong Mediterranean identity.
