Description
RP94 the Calon Segur 2005 is on a par with the wonderful 2000. The only real difference is that this one needs more time in bottle. It has a captivating nose: blackberry and mulberry fruits coming at you in all their skin; dried blood and bacon fat developing as secondary aromas just behind. There is a fine delineation here: an underlying minerality that is sure to surface with time. On the palate it is very intense and captivatingly youthful, almost ferrous on entry with layers of ripe black fruit giving way to an earthy finish (with a curiously light hint of Marmite in the aftertaste!). It is a fabulous Calon Ségur, although the age-old wine might ultimately possess greater precision. We shall see.
