Description
Yalumba Octavius is a red wine crafted by Yalumba Estate in the Barossa region, South Australia. With vineyards dating back to 1854, predating the Bordeaux Classification, and with an average age of 111 years, it embodies the ambitions of the Hill-Smith family. This vintage represents one of Barossa and Yalumba Estate's greatest successes in recent memory, characterized by warm fruit power and elegant structure. Formerly matured in 100-liter 8-stave barrels (octaves), today it is aged in French and Hungarian barrels and hogsheads from the Yalumba Estate. Octavius Shiraz is described as heroic but not showy, dramatic but not theatrical, and profound but not introverted. With ratings of 99 by Caillard, 98 by Matthew Jukes, and 97 by Jane Anson, it offers great value for its typicity and its provenance from ancient vines.
