Casanova di Neri was founded in 1971 by Giovanni Neri with the dream of being able to produce a great Italian red wine. Although the famous lands of Chianti Classico are just a stone's throw from where he grew up, what fascinates him is the austerity of the Sangiovese grown in Montalcino and its unpredictability. The DOC Brunello, born four years earlier, counts only 30 or so producers, compared to almost 250 today. During his numerous trips to Montalcino, only one property, among the many for sale, caught his attention: Podere Casanova. A plot of about 200 hectares, east of the town. Wine remains a marginal part of production and is mostly sold in bulk. Giovanni Neri understands, however, that thanks to the altitude, the characteristics and the composition of the soil, this place has the potential to produce a great Brunello. In May 1971 he bought Podere Casanova, changing its name to Casanova di Neri. From the beginning, thanks also to the help of some Ilcina wine producers, he began to fix the Sangiovese vineyards he already owned and planted new ones. Rosso di Montalcino offers the unique style of Casanova di Neri in a wine of structure and elegance but easy to drink and with a strong bond with the territory.
