John Riddoch Cabernet Sauvignon is a red wine made by Wynns Coonawarra Estate in the Coonawarra region of Australia. This wine, first conceived in 1982, was created as Wynns' flagship wine, in honor of John Riddoch, a true visionary who contributed to the region's winemaking development.
The John Riddoch Cabernet Sauvignon is produced in limited quantities using the finest grapes available from the estate's extensive Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards, located in the heart of Coonawarra's terra rossa soil. It is made only in exceptional years, using less than one percent of the highest quality Cabernet Sauvignon grapes.
In 2020, three top-tier vineyards with terra rossa soil were selected for the John Riddoch. The average age of these vines was 29 years. For ageing, it was aged for 17 months in French barrels and barrels. 23% new, 45% one-year, and 32% two-year-old.
Deep red in colour, with intense and remarkably high aromas. Black olive, raspberry, dried bay leaf, mossy/red licorice notes, blue/violet flowers; brambles or crushed raspberry leaves. Initially subtle but gradually opens up. On the palate it is medium-bodied with balanced dusty tannins. The fruit will grow in the frame in no time. Baked plum cake and soft spices, light notes of dough, green olive. The flavors of rhubarb and roasted cherry linger on the palate. The fruit is concentrated but not heavy. A wine of poise and elegance. John Riddoch Cabernet 2020 will age gracefully in line with its heritage and quality.
