Ramilo Colares Ramisco is a red wine made by Nuno Ramilo in the Colares region, Lisbon, Portugal. It is produced organically, using the native Ramisco variety, from organically grown vineyards. The grapes are harvested by hand in the cool mornings and they are completely destemmed. They are pressed in a stone winepress, where the alcoholic fermentation also takes place. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged for two years in French oak barrels.
Red Colares are revered wines in Portugal. A tiny DOC, therefore small productions (660 bottles of this wine are made each year). The wine has little color, with an intense and balsamic nose. In the mouth you notice the salinity typical of the sandy soils of Colares, there is tannin that will preserve it for decades. If you haven't tried a young Colares Tinto before, think about a Barolo and you won't be too far off the mark. A great wine from Portugal.
