Marcio Lopes Proibido Marufo 2021

Márcio Lopes

Since the beginning of his wine career, Marcio Lopes has included the Marufo variety in his wines. It is a very common grape in the oldest vineyards of the Douro. Therefore, when he found a small vineyard planted with the variety, he said that it was time to make a monovarietal. This farm, planted thirty years ago, has the typical schist soils of the Upper DOuro. It is worked and harvested by hand and it is stepped on foot in the traditional cement press, with a maceration and fermentation that lasted for two months. After this time, the wine was transferred to used 400-liter barrels for refining, bottled without clarifying or filtering and with a minimal addition of sulfur in the process. Proibido Marufo is a wine to be consumed in the next five or ten years, in the red fruit with smoky notes, it will use a couple of years to polish the tannic side.
