Description
In 1995, Dave Powell made his first brew in a shed on his 30-acre estate called Marananga. He named his wine Torbreck, after the Scottish forests where he had worked as a lumberjack. His philosophy was to recover old abandoned vineyards and reflect the character of Barossa through the Shiraz, Garnacha and Mataro varieties. These principles, together with admiration for the style of French Rhône wines, made their wines a benchmark as soon as they hit the market. Torbreck wines manage tannicity and extraction admirably, integrating both in texture and elegance. Today they are authentic icon wines and one of the most prestigious wineries in Australia. High scores from benchmark critics make some of their wines hard to come by as collector's gems.
