Its name is due to the fact that in 1736 King George II of England imposed an annual fee of 50 pounds (Fifty Pounds) to regulate the distillation of gin: only two distillers paid such an exorbitant fee for the time. In the recipe they combine eleven botanical elements, among which berries from the Croatian Mountains, coriander seeds from the Middle East, grain of paradise from the Gulf of Guinea, lemon and orange peel from Spain, Savory from France, angelica, root of licorice and three other absolutely secret components.
