Gómez Cruzado
Gómez Cruzado is one of those wineries that has been part of the DNA of modern Rioja for more than a century. Founded in 1886 in the iconic Barrio de la Estación in Haro, it has gone through different stages, but today it maintains a very clear identity: fine, precise wines focused on vineyard expression. Its style moves away from the more traditional power of Rioja, seeking freshness, balance, and a more detailed interpretation of each Rioja Alta parcel. A historic winery that has managed to update its approach to wine without losing its origins.

A winery born in the heart of historic Rioja
Gómez Cruzado was founded in 1886 in Haro, at the very beginning of the Barrio de la Estación, one of the most important wine enclaves in Spain’s history. This district emerged in the late 19th century alongside the railway and the international wine trade, bringing together some of Rioja’s most iconic wineries.
From its origins, the estate has been part of this historic core that has shaped Rioja’s global identity.
The Barrio de la Estación as a point of origin
The Barrio de la Estación is not just a location, but a historical context. It was born from the development of the railway and trade exchanges with France, when many wineries settled around Haro’s station to facilitate wine exportation.
In this setting, some of Rioja’s most important houses coexist, making Gómez Cruzado part of a unique viticultural landscape.
A winery of history, evolution, and continuity
After different ownership stages and periods of change, the winery came under the ownership of the Baños family, who have driven its most recent era.
In recent years, the project has focused on recovering estate vineyards and strengthening its connection to origin, working with small parcels spread across Rioja Alta and other surrounding areas.
The vineyard as a starting point
Today’s work at Gómez Cruzado is based on a clear idea: wine begins in the vineyard.
The estate works with old vines and selected plots that allow different soils and altitudes within Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa to be expressed.
Each wine aims to reflect a specific origin, with its own identity and minimal intervention in the winery.
A finer and more precise Rioja style
The winery’s style moves away from the more powerful expression of classic Rioja, focusing instead on fresher, more elegant, and better-balanced wines.
Fruit, acidity, and texture are integrated harmoniously, with measured oak aging that never masks the origin.
The result is wines with a clear vineyard expression and a consistent sense of finesse.
An evolving project within the Barrio de la Estación
Over the past decade, Gómez Cruzado has strengthened its structure with new facilities and a more precise parcel-based vinification approach.
This has allowed for a deeper understanding of vineyard diversity and the consolidation of a more defined identity within Rioja.
Gómez Cruzado today
Today, the winery is a benchmark for a more modern and elegant style of Rioja, without losing its centenary roots in Haro.
It combines historical tradition with a contemporary vision focused on vineyard expression, precision, and freshness.
