Francois Crochet

Francois Crochet

In Bué, a small spot within Sancerre, François Crochet makes wine like someone tuning a very delicate instrument. Everything here is about precision, soil, and patience. Vineyards are split into tiny parcels, rooted in limestone, flint, and clay that force the wine to define itself without makeup. The result is Sancerre with a very fine tension: clean, mineral, vibrant, yet with more depth than first meets the eye. Wines that seem quiet… until you really listen to them. Más información sobre Francois Crochet

A small domaine, remarkable precision

Domaine François Crochet is located in Bué, in the heart of the Sancerrois.
It is a small family-run estate where François Crochet works directly in the vineyard, with an almost obsessive attention to each individual parcel.

This is not an industrial winery and it does not aim for volume. It is a domaine where every wine is shaped by very deliberate decisions in both vineyard and cellar.

Sancerre in its purest expression

The vineyards are spread across limestone soils (caillottes), clay-limestone, and flint (silex).
This geological diversity is key to understanding the style of the wines: tension, minerality, and a very clean expression of Sauvignon Blanc.

The result is not a generic Sancerre, but a bottled map of the territory itself.

Highly manual and precise vineyard work

The vines, with an average age of around 25–30 years, are farmed organically with controlled yields.

Harvest is entirely manual, and François is deeply involved in vineyard work, managing a highly parcel-driven estate with more than thirty plots spread across different villages in the Sancerrois.

This is viticulture focused on detail, not volume.

Sauvignon Blanc with unusual depth

Although Sancerre is often associated with direct and highly aromatic wines, the style here is broader.

The wines retain the classic freshness of Sauvignon Blanc, but gain texture, volume, and a more pronounced mineral character.

The goal is not to simplify the wine, but to build layers without losing precision.

A Sancerre that also includes Pinot Noir

In addition to whites, the domaine works with Pinot Noir to produce Sancerre rouge.

These are light reds with character, showing red fruit, subtle spice, and a delicate texture—quite uncommon in the region.

Winemaking focused on purity

In the cellar, the work is highly controlled: stainless steel fermentations, precise temperatures, and ageing tailored to each parcel and cuvée.

Some wines gain additional volume through techniques such as fermentation in egg-shaped vessels or partial oak ageing, always without sacrificing freshness.

A style defined by precision

François Crochet has established himself as one of the most refined names in Sancerre.
His wines are sought after for their balance of energy, minerality, and aromatic definition.

Small production, high demand, and a very clear identity: wines without noise, but with strong intent.

Domaine François Crochet today

Today, the domaine is a benchmark in the Sancerrois for its precise and modern interpretation of the region.

A winery that represents the purest face of the Loire: stone, tension, and restrained elegance.
