Bodega Edra: soulful wines from the Huesca Pre-Pyrenees

Bodega Edra is a wine project located in Ayerbe, in the Huesca Pre-Pyrenees, a singular area where landscape, climate and vineyard come together to create wines with a very recognizable identity. In this setting of the IGP Ribera del Gállego, Edra works with estate vineyards and a philosophy based on respect for nature, observation of the vineyard and low-intervention winemaking.

Its wines are born from well-drained clay-limestone soils, shaped by water stress, summer temperature contrast and a vegetal cover that helps preserve humidity, generate organic matter and encourage the natural balance of the vines. All this gives Edra wines their characteristic minerality, freshness and a very personal expression of the territory.

An estate vineyard in Ayerbe

Edra’s vineyard is located in the town of Ayerbe, at the foot of the Huesca Pre-Pyrenees. There, the winery grows varieties such as Syrah, Merlot, Tempranillo, Garnacha, Viognier and Parraleta, among others, with carefully controlled yields that make it possible to obtain concentrated, high-quality grapes.

The vineyard is the centre of the entire project. Edra does not understand wine as an isolated product, but as the result of a direct relationship between land, climate, plant and human work. For this reason, every decision in the vineyard seeks to respect the natural cycles of the vine, avoid excess vigour and achieve balanced plants capable of expressing the landscape with authenticity.

Nature, biodiversity and balance

One of the most special aspects of Bodega Edra is the way it integrates into its surroundings. The vineyard appears as an oasis among cereal fields and almond trees, surrounded by biodiversity and worked from a respectful perspective. Organic matter from pruning and mowing returns to the soil, reinforcing the life of the vineyard and helping to maintain a natural balance.

The vegetal cover plays a fundamental role: it protects the soil, preserves humidity, creates natural competition with the vine and forces the roots to grow deeper. This search for depth is precisely one of the keys to the personality of its wines, which show freshness, tension and a marked mineral sensation.

Manual harvest and careful work

At Edra, the harvest is carried out by hand, generally at the beginning of September and during the first hours of the day, when the grapes are at their optimum ripeness in pulp, skin, seed, sugar and acidity. This care from the moment of picking helps preserve grape quality and allows each wine to be made with precision.

The winery uses cold pre-fermentation macerations to extract the maximum aromatic potential from the grapes. From there, winemaking is understood as respectful accompaniment, where the wine evolves calmly and where intervention seeks to enhance, not disguise, the identity of the vineyard.

Low-intervention oenology

Edra’s oenology is based on the sensory tasting method developed by its winemaker Antonio Palacios García. During fermentation and ageing, the winery focuses on low-intervention care, conscious selection and a balanced relationship between grape, wood and time.

This philosophy gives rise to sincere wines, with texture, fruit, minerality and a personality closely connected to their origin. Edra does not seek to make artificially perfect wines, but living, honest wines capable of conveying the character of the Huesca Pre-Pyrenees.

Edra XtraSyrah: power, freshness and personality

Edra XtraSyrah is one of the winery’s most representative wines. Made with Syrah, one of the varieties best adapted to the area, it stands out for its balance between power, freshness, ripe fruit, softness and character.
