Meticulous vineyard work

The philosophy of Domaine Dureuil-Janthial begins with one essential idea: wine is made first in the vineyard. For this reason, Céline and Vincent Dureuil pay absolute attention to the soil, the plant and the natural balance of each plot. The winery works with 100% manual harvesting, good agricultural practices and a constant search for ripeness, freshness and precision.

In the vineyard, work includes Guyot and Guyot-Poussard pruning, tying down canes, soil work, disbudding, training, ploughing and careful control of vegetation. Every gesture has a purpose: to control yields, encourage grape health and allow each vine to express its character as faithfully as possible.

The domaine has used the lunar calendar for years for different vineyard and cellar tasks. In addition, when harvest time arrives, they are not afraid to wait for the exact point of ripeness, even taking risks, with the aim of producing wines that are tense, flavourful, mineral and supported by lively acidity.

Chardonnay whites with tension, minerality and finesse

The white wines of Dureuil-Janthial are one of the domaine’s great signatures. Made mainly from Chardonnay, they show a very Burgundian combination of precision, energy, texture and minerality. These are not heavy whites or wines excessively marked by oak; on the contrary, they seek balance, depth and a clean expression of the vineyard.

The range includes references such as Bourgogne Blanc, Rully Blanc, Rully “Maizières”, Rully “Chêne”, Rully Premier Cru “Le Meix Cadot”, “Margotés”, “Vauvry”, “Chapitre” and “Grésigny Vieilles Vignes”, as well as wines from Puligny-Montrachet such as “Corvée des Vignes” and Premier Cru “Les Champs Gains”.

In the cellar, the whites are made with direct pressing, 24-hour static settling, barrel ageing with a moderate proportion of new oak and completion of élevage in stainless steel tanks before bottling. This approach preserves freshness, tension and precision, without giving up the complexity brought by ageing.

The red wines of Domaine Dureuil-Janthial reveal another side of the project: Pinot Noir of great finesse, with clean fruit, elegant structure and a very faithful expression of each plot. The red vinification is carried out with highly precise work: sorting of the harvest on two sorting tables, the possibility of full destemming, whole bunches or manual destemming, cold maceration, controlled fermentation and barrel ageing. The winery decides timings according to tasting, showing a winemaking approach based on observation and sensitivity.
