The origin of a winemaking legacy in Rueda
The history of José Pariente dates back to the 1960s, when José Pariente, a vine grower from Rueda, began working with the Verdejo grape using an artisanal approach, producing small batches from his own vineyards.
His philosophy was based on meticulous viticulture, respect for the land, and the pursuit of the highest quality grapes. Part of his production was sold to other wineries in the area, while he maintained a small personal production in an almost domestic style.
The birth of the winery
In 1998, Victoria Pariente, the founder’s daughter, decided to continue her father’s dream and establish the winery that would bear his name as a tribute. Her goal was clear: to express the full potential of Verdejo in all its forms, from young wines to barrel-aged expressions.
From that moment on, the winery began to establish itself as one of the benchmarks of the Rueda DO, combining innovation with a strong connection to family tradition.
A family and an evolving project
Over time, the second generation took over, with Martina and Ignacio Prieto Pariente driving both the winery’s evolution and new projects linked to the diversity of vineyards in Castilla y León.
This growth reinforces the idea of a family united by wine, where each generation contributes a different yet coherent vision of the original legacy.
The vineyard at the heart of the project
José Pariente’s work is based on a deep classification and study of its vineyards, spread across Valladolid and Segovia. This diversity of soils and microclimates allows for grapes with very different expressions, which is key to the style of the wines.
The predominant soils are stony, with pebbles and low organic matter, providing freshness, tension, and minerality to the wines. The average altitude of 700 to 800 meters and the extreme continental climate lead to slow, balanced ripening.
A demanding climate that defines the style
The climate of the area is characterized by long, cold winters, spring frost risks, and dry summers with strong day-night temperature contrasts.
This is essential for Verdejo, as it helps preserve natural acidity while developing strong aromatic intensity.
Philosophy of work: precision, sustainability, and innovation
Since its beginnings, the winery has embraced sustainable viticulture and ongoing research in both vineyard and winery.
The goal is to enhance vineyard expression while maintaining a balance between tradition and innovation, applying modern techniques without losing the identity of the terroir.
