At Coalla Gourmet, we present the wines of Benjamin Romeo, founder of Bodega Contador, one of Rioja's most prestigious wineries. Since its beginnings in 1985 in Laguardia, Benjamin Romeo has combined tradition and innovative techniques to craft wines that reflect the diversity and richness of the Sierra de Toloño terroir, where his 40 hectares of vineyards are located, spread across 62 plots.

What characterizes Benjamin Romeo wines?

The winery cultivates native red varieties such as Tempranillo, Garnacha, Graciano, and Mazuelo, and white varieties such as Viura, Malvasía, and Garnacha Blanca, working in diverse soils and microclimates. The harvest is done by hand, with carefully selected grapes in 14kg crates. Spontaneous fermentation takes place in French oak vats, followed by aging in high-end barrels for 18-20 months, following the lunar cycles to best preserve the wine's character.

Among their notable wines are Contador, La Cueva del Contador, Predicador, A Mi Manera, and the whites Qué Bonito Cacareaba and Predicador Blanco. These wines are characterized by their complexity, elegance, and aging potential, and have received international acclaim, including 100 Parker points in several vintages.
