Heraclio Alfaro
Heraclio Alfaro is Terras Gauda’s project in the DOCa Rioja, located in Alfaro in the heart of Rioja Oriental. Born from the historic El Estarijo estate, with a viticultural heritage dating back to the 1970s, it has evolved into a modern winery focused on expressing terroir.
Its name pays tribute to Heraclio Alfaro Fournier, a pioneer of Spanish aviation, reflecting the spirit of the project: vision, evolution, and a strong connection to the land.

A historic estate in Rioja Oriental
Heraclio Alfaro is based on the El Estarijo estate in the municipality of Alfaro, one of the most Mediterranean areas of the DOCa Rioja. The property spans more than 100 hectares, of which around 30 are dedicated to vineyards.
The rest of the estate is shared between Arbequina olive trees and fruit orchards, creating a diverse and balanced agricultural landscape.
A viticultural origin dating back to the 1970s
The vineyard was originally planted in the 1970s by the Torres Librada family, who began producing wine under the Torrescudo label.
In the 2000s, the estate passed to the Beltrán family, who modernised the facilities and launched the Egomei brand, marking a new phase in the evolution of the project.
The arrival of Terras Gauda in Rioja
In 2018, the Terras Gauda Group acquired the winery and entered the DOCa Rioja with the goal of developing wines with their own identity within one of Spain’s most important wine regions.
From the outset, the project has focused on estate wines, with a strong connection to origin and vineyard expression.
El Estarijo, a Mediterranean-soil vineyard
The El Estarijo estate is characterised by loamy soils with abundant pebbles, good depth, and moderate fertility.
These conditions keep vine vigour under control and allow for balanced ripening, a key factor in defining the style of the wines.
Classic Rioja varieties with a broader vision
The vineyard is mainly planted with Tempranillo, Graciano, and Mazuelo, the traditional red varieties of Rioja.
In addition, the winery works with vineyards in higher-altitude areas such as Sierra de la Hez and Monte Yerga, where Garnacha brings freshness, acidity, and a more Atlantic profile within Alfaro’s Mediterranean character.
A more modern Rioja rooted in estate vineyards
Heraclio Alfaro represents a contemporary vision of Rioja, focused on vineyard control and on interpreting the landscape of Rioja Oriental.
The combination of lowland parcels and high-altitude vineyards allows for wines with greater complexity and balance.
A tribute with a name
The project is named after Heraclio Alfaro Fournier, a pioneer of Spanish aviation. His figure symbolises innovation, openness, and breaking boundaries—values that the winery translates into its approach to winemaking.
Heraclio Alfaro today
Today, the winery is part of the Terras Gauda Group and has established itself as one of the leading estate-focused projects in Rioja Oriental.
Its style seeks a balance between Rioja tradition and a more precise reading of the vineyard.
