History and tradition of Cantina San Marzano
In 1962, nineteen winemakers from San Marzano, linked to the land for generations, came together to establish Cantina San Marzano. Over the decades, the cooperative has expanded to include over 1,200 viticulturists while preserving the rich winemaking traditions of Apulia. Each wine embodies the knowledge and care passed down through generations.
The Apulia region and its terroir
Located in the heart of the D.O.P. Primitivo, Cantina San Marzano benefits from a unique landscape: clay soils stretching between the Ionian and Adriatic Seas, historic villages, and a patchwork of vineyards and olive groves. This Mediterranean environment provides an ideal microclimate, with soils that shape the aroma, structure, and character of every wine.
Vineyards and grape varieties
Cantina San Marzano manages around 1,500 hectares, mainly planted with native grapes and a few adapted varieties. Careful grape selection and strict production control ensure balanced, expressive, and high-quality wines. By combining modern techniques with traditional methods, each bottle reflects the terroir and the legacy of the cooperative’s families.
