What lies behind Fento Wines

Fento Wines was founded in August 2012 as a family-driven, contemporary project focused on natural winemaking. Its goal is to express the strength of the grape, its nuances, and the identity of the terroir from a free and respectful perspective.

Viticulture and working philosophy

The project combines natural viticulture with new winemaking approaches, prioritizing the relationship between vine, soil, climate, and grower.

It works closely with small local winegrowers, promoting a sustainable and rational approach to vineyard management.

Vineyards in Galicia

In Galicia, the vineyards are located in the southern part of Pontevedra, in the Condado de Tea subzone within the Rías Baixas appellation.

The soils are known as “xabre”, made of weathered granite with a sandy texture. Vines are traditionally trained on pergolas.

Cultivated grape varieties include:
Albariño, Treixadura, Loureiro, Godello, Torrontés, Sousón, Espadeiro, and Pedral.

Expansion into Portugal

The project also extends into Portugal’s Dão region, working with grapes from Quinta da Pellada, owned by Álvaro Castro.

These vineyards include vines ranging from 3 to 70 years old, with native varieties such as Alfrocheiro, Jaén, and Baga.

Winemaking process

Winemaking does not follow fixed rules, as it depends on each vintage.

Harvesting is done by hand with strict vineyard selection. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, and depending on the vintage, malolactic fermentation and aging times are decided accordingly.

Project identity

Fento Wines represents a modern vision of Atlantic viticulture based on minimal intervention and deep respect for the environment.

Its philosophy focuses on expressing vineyard character and the diversity of native grape varieties from Galicia and Portugal.
